Background

Smile Again Africa Development Organization (SAADO) is a national non-profit humanitarian and development organization dedicated to working with the youth and their communities to reach their full potential. Founded in 2011, SAADO works across all the states of South Sudan promoting social cohesion and empowering communities to tackle the causes of poverty and injustices.  We provide humanitarian assistance to families affected by disaster & conflict while partnering with communities for long – term solutions to alleviate poverty. Motivated by the potential in the youth, we optimize their role to foster peaceful co-existence and economic empowerment in South Sudan.  

           

The Role

Reporting to the Director Quality and Assurance, , Communications and Information Management Officer  contributes to the development of communication and donor relation strategies for key programs and campaigns and coordinates their implementation in developing and disseminating information to the general public, media, government, partner NGOs and other key stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Support the Director of Quality Assurance to develop SAADO’s communication strategy and ensure its adoption across the organization.

·         Ensure communications strategies, media relations and organizational outreach efforts are aligned with SAADO communications policies and initiatives.

·         Increase scope and content from SAADO across all platforms including traditional media, social media, website and multi-media, to raise the profile of SAADO’s grassroots activities and impact.

·         Assist in the identification of opportunities for increased media coverage of SAADO work nationally and at State levels.

·         Review documents and any other documentation from workshops, high level meetings as required and develop stories and blogs for external audiences.

·         Commission short films/documentaries on relevant issues, or for specific events and in conjunction with field teams and staff.

·         Periodically review and give oversight to all external SAADO communications, including articles, blogs, website and social media, in compliance with SAADO branding policies.

·         Identify and develop storylines for publications and substantive articles to be published on web and in other media

·         Keep program team updated on key news, events and information of relevance to the Program;

·         Desktop publishing and graphic design of print and online materials, including fact sheets, brochures, e-newsletters and social media sites, and will also help develop SAADO branding strategies and popularizing plans for new and on-going programs.

·         Ensure clear, consistent and timely responses to media inquiries; issuance of statement and corporate positions to media and other external audiences.

·         Assist with coordinating external presentations and facilitating effective representation at public events. 

·         Ensure the visibility of SAADO at all levels.

·         Support the capacity building for National staff to ensure the sustainability of services in the cluster at the national level and a smooth face out of the international consultant.

·         Analyse and report on communication impact for digital/social and traditional media.

·         Establish a data management system which can enter, edit and analyses the data that produce immediate information output.

·         Timely assist in addressing partners data needs on Saado’s donors and NGOs information and query on the database and derivative products, such as maps and liaise with OCHA

·         Supervise and coordinate the Line management responsibility for the Information and Communications Officer.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

·         At least a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences, international relations or related field and 5 years work experience.

·         Additional Professional training in Communications including media, film, directing desirable.

·         Experience in program coordination

·         Effective use of social media for technical application;

·         Good photography, radio and video, and media skills;

·         Excellent written and spoken skills in English, Arabic and local South Sudan languages

·         Excellent communication (written and oral), editing, and advocacy skills;

·         Ability to work under pressure and prioritize assignments.
